KING OF THE HILL - Exterior
Dimensions
With a relatively short but notably wide body, FJ's stance is as stable in execution as it is powerful in expression. Short overhangs—front and rear—provide exceptional approach, departure and breakover angles. And, with the bulk of weight firmly between the front and rear axles, FJ is extremely adept at navigating tight spots and even tighter corners.
Heritage Styling
FJ pays homage to its legendary namesake with a series of styling cues unique to the original, including: round headlamps; elongated grille with "Toyota" badging; near upright windscreen; white cap; and wrap-around tail lamps.
Wipers
FJ's front windscreen features Three Wiper Blades for full coverage of FJ's broad glass shield. The Rear Wiper is retractable to allow the Rear Hatch Glass to open and close-and includes a Washer function to keep the mud at bay.
Access Doors
FJ's Rear Access Doors open wide—almost 90°—for easy entry and exit or loading and unloading.
ROUGH & READY - Interior
Instrument Panel
The Instrument Panel is the unquestioned focal point of a vehicle's interior—and FJ's is worthy of special attention. Dual horizontal pipes run the length of the Panel and frame the Inset Instrumentation. The Colour-Keyed Trim surrounding the AC and Audio Controls reinforces the mechanical, tool-like feel of the interior.
Accessory Meters
The Offroad and Urban Packages include an Accessory Meter Cluster that sits front and centre atop the Instrument Panel and features an Inclinometer, Compass and Outside Temperature Gauge.
Front Seats
The Driver's Seat features manual slide, recline and cushion height adjustments, along with a Fold-Down Armrest. The Front Passenger Seat offers four manual adjustments (slide and recline). Both seats boast Active Front Headrests for greater safety. All seats are cloaked in a durable, Water Repellant Cloth.
Rear Seats
Rear Seats split 60/40 and feature Double-Folding capabilities with both the Seat Cushion and Seat Back capable of folding forward depending on passenger and cargo requirements. Seat Cushions are also removable to open up even more cargo room.
Cargo Space
FJ was purpose-built to go most anywhere and enable owners to do most anything. So, it should come as no surprise that FJ's multiple seating arrangements offer up ample Cargo Space for anything from a couple of Mountain Bikes to a 10' long Surfboard. A variety of well-placed Hooks and Tie-downs ensure that everything stays in place when the going gets rough.
BEAUTY OF A BEAST - Performance
Six-speed Manual Transmission
The 6-speed Manual features a true, full-time 4-Wheel Drive system, complete with Centre Diff Lock, Rear Diff Lock and 2-speed transfer case. In combination with standard Vehicle Stability Control [VSC] and added Active Traction Control [ATRAC], there is little ground that FJ can't claw through, clamber over or flat out conquer.
Five-speed Automatic
The 5-speed Automatic features a Part-Time 4-Wheel Drive system including an Automatic Disconnecting Differential [A.D.D.] and 2-speed Transfer Case. Vehicle Stability Control [VSC], Active Traction Control [ATRAC] and Rear Diff Lock are also Standard.
Super ECT
On the 5-speed Automatic, Super ECT allows the Engine Control Module (ECM) to manage shift decisions based on engine speed and load. The result: every shift is as precise and seamless as possible. The ECM also monitors throttle position, road speed, power requirements and operating temperature to efficiently direct gear selection and adjust shift points to driving demands.
Variable Gear Ratio Steering
FJ features Variable Gear Ratio Steering [VGRS] which continually adjusts steering gearing depending on vehicle speed. The result: at high speeds a higher steering ratio delivers more relaxed steering, since the vehicle doesn't alter direction with every movement of the steering wheel. At lower speeds, low steering gearing keeps the steering tight and responsive allowing for quick changes of direction from small steering inputs.
BIG FOOT - Safety
Body Structure
FJ's rock solid Frame is complemented by a highly rigid, High-tensile Steel Body. FJ's doors and side panels are, in particular, a work of structural art – strategically reinforced at key points from the A to the C Pillars to create a rigid steel cage capable of first absorbing and then distributing impact energy around and away from the passenger cabin.
